Thematic Area: Gender and Employment

This thematic area covers studies that attempt to address the main determinants of female labour force participation and female underemployment in LICs, and the causes of gender gaps in earnings and productivity. Furthermore, these projects develop models that can help us understand barriers and constraints to improved labour market outcomes for women, in relation to: markets, household dynamics, formal institutions (laws and regulations), and informal institutions (social norms and obligations). This thematic area aims at suggesting combinations of policies, practises and institutions that are effective in tackling discrimination and enabling women to engage in more productive sectors with better security and earnings potential.
