November 10, 2024
November 13, 2024
AUC New Cairo, Egypt

The G²LM|LIC Programme organised a policy conference and an Advanced Evaluation Social Programmes course jointly with J-PAL MENA at The American University in Cairo (AUC) and UNICEF Egypt. The events took place from November 10 to 13, 2024 and were hosted at AUC in Cairo.

The policy conference featured an insightful keynote on women in the labour market in Egypt by Dr. Magued Osman, Board Member of the Egyptian National Council for Women (NCW) and Former Minister of Communication and Information Technology in Egypt. The keynote was followed by a panel discussion on “Women in the Labour Market: Challenges and Chances for Egypt and Beyond”, featuring insights from G²LM|LIC director Oriana Bandiera among others. Finally, six academics presented their ongoing work to the audience, with three G²LM|LIC projects being presented by Munshi Sulaiman, Emily Beam, and Abdelrahman Nagy.

The one-day conference was followed by a three-day course on impact evaluation methods. The instructors included Oriana Bandiera teaching a session on general research skills, Michele Tarsilla (UNICEF) teaching a session on qualitative methods, Ben Elsner (UCD) teaching a day on quasi-experimental methods, and Emily Beam (University of Vermont) teaching a day on RCTs. Moreover, on the second day of the course, a selected number of participants presented their paper in a poster session. Over 40 participants from Egypt, the MENA region and Sub-Saharan Africa completed the course. Please find the detailed programme here.
