Dr. Janneke Pieters is an Associate Professor in the Development Economics Group at Wageningen University. She is a Research Fellow at IZA and at UNU-WIDER, and member of the European Development Research Network. Her research interests are primarily in the fields of labor economics and development economics, with a focus on labor markets and gender inequality. She studies the determinants and consequences of women’s economic activities in developing countries, relying on large secondary micro-level datasets as well as primary data from field and survey experiments. Her work has been published in the Journal of Human Resources, the World Bank Economic Review, and the Journal of Politics, among others.
Established in 1998 in Bonn, Germany, IZA is an independent, non-profit research institution supported by the Deutsche Post Foundation with a focus on the analysis of global labour markets. It operates an international network of about 1,500 economists and researchers spanning across more than 50 countries.
