Dr. Espen Villanger is a Research Professor and Director of the Chr. Michelsen Institute. He has a long track record in leading and implementing empirical and theoretical evaluations of development interventions, particularly on gender issues. He has conducted a range of quantitative and qualitative assessments and also designed and implemented rigorous impact evaluations. In particular, he has conducted substantial research on domestic violence in Ethiopia during the last ten years. Engaged in policy development, he worked as a Senior Economist and Country Office Gender Focal Point for the World Bank in Ethiopia (2009-2012). Villanger has published in journals such as the Journal of Human Resources, the Journal of Public Economics, and the European Economic Review
