Emily Beam

    University of Vermont

Dr. Emily Beam is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Vermont and a Research Fellow at IZA. She has more than 12 years of experience designing and implementing randomized field experiments in low- and middle-income settings, particularly in Southeast Asia and East Africa, and her research centres on topics of education, social inclusion, and employment. She brings expertise working with small-scale entrepreneurs through impact evaluations of livelihood and training interventions in the Philippines, Malawi, and Zimbabwe. Additionally, she is investigating the role of gender norms on workplace environments in Bangladesh in partnership with BRAC. Her current and past work involves close collaboration with NGOs and governments to develop rigorous evaluations and translate research findings into actionable policy insights.
