The IZA/DFID Program on Gender, Growth and Labor Markets in Low-Income Countries sponsored a conference on “Labor Markets in South Asia” held on December 5–6, 2019. The conference was followed by a two-day “IZA/DFID Short Course on Program Evaluation,” which took place on December 7–8.

The short course was designed for postgraduate students, faculty members, and early-career researchers working in government and non-governmental organizations who wished to strengthen their skills in program evaluation using modern econometric methods. The course consisted of four half-day sessions and covered key topics including:
* Design and analysis of randomized controlled trials
* Propensity score matching methods
* Difference-in-difference estimators
* Regression discontinuity designs
The focus was on applying these methods to the evaluation of labor-market-related programs, such as skills-training initiatives. Participants also had the opportunity to present their own research in a poster session.
